Our Story
Our story began in 2009 when Health Analytics was asked to create a software application to support GP
commissioning. It followed a decision by Redbridge Primary Care Trust to transfer financial and decision-making
skills to clinicians more than a year ahead of the Government’s groundbreaking white paper on health.
Our goal was to give GPs greater understanding of what was happening in their patch so they could
make more informed decisions about patient care.
We discovered that about 5% of patient data was held in hospitals, while the remainder sat in
GP surgeries on a variety of often outdated and unconnected computer servers. The ability to use this information
to assist commissioning offered huge opportunities to improve patient care though a better understanding of people's
needs coupled with the efficiency of various care options.
There had been some tantalizing glimpses of how use of these data could change the way commissioners work through innovative
government funded work
on the PARR and PARR++
risk stratification models. These predicted patient risk of emergency readmission to hospital based on studies of in-patient data.
Analysis was restricted to secondary care data, but as most patient data's not in the secondary care sector, up to 95% of
available data wasn't used, and patients who had not yet been hospitalised were excluded.
The King's Fund Combined Model
took this a step further by linking inpatient, outpatient, A&E and most importantly GP data.
Health Analytics took this work to the next level, combining and analysing primary, secondary
care, community and social care data in a "warehouse" capable of processing hundreds of millions of
patient records.
Today
Health Analytics' reporting software uses all available NHS information to help commissioners make more
informed decisions about healthcare.
Today our LinkWell platform supports more than 15 software modules, including:
Our systems are used by multiple commissioners and serve more than 1.5 million people.
The speed, flexibility and attention to detail that LinkWell provides means GPs can get an accurate
overview of their patients' needs at the touch of a button.
The capacity to see comparative statistics and performance compared to neighbouring practices, track
emerging trends, review financial spend and co-ordinate health
initiatives across wider geographical areas
gives emerging clinical commissioning groups a clear picture of the health landscape.
The power to analyse and then co-ordinate appropriate health solutions across whole boroughs
and sectors leads to more effective use of resources while avoiding duplication and the financial waste of
running multiple campaigns.
We are committed to working alongside GPs, practice managers and other health professionals
to provide further insights to improve patient care and the efficiency of the NHS.
Health Analytics estimate savings to the NHS of over £100 million a year can be achieved through better analytics.
